A MESSAGE FROM WSM...
Hello WSM Supporters,
This is the first time I have ever written to you in the 36 years of WSM. I am taking this time to inform you of what is transpiring with the ministry. This past month, JoLynn went through major surgery at UCSF. The surgery was necessary to correct what has happened to her spine from scoliosis. A few years ago, she had surgery on her lower lumbar area, which helped briefly. At that time, her surgeon informed her that eventually she would need a full spinal fusion. The time had come. So, on August 18th and 20th JoLynn underwent surgery to remove what had previously been done and then a full spinal fusion from base of the neck to the hip. The recovery time for this type of surgery is 4 to 6 months with major physical and occupational therapy involved. Currently, she is recovering at a Rehabilitation Hospital in Modesto but will be transferred home within a week. It is out of respect for her and our family that I am asking that no visitors come by our home while she takes time to recover. In addition, with 2 high school students completing Distance Learning this would be very disruptive for us. I will be sending another message when we are ready for visitors. Please continue to pray for JoLynn’s recovery and for our family as we adjust to a slightly different way to do life in our home. Thank you for your understanding.
Now about the ministry, WSM is functioning as fully as possible during these pandemic times. We are still giving out food boxes every Wednesday from 2pm to 5pm at WSM. Also, the staff has been bringing food boxes out to Grayson when the USDA boxes are available. The gardens are still producing and we are harvesting a few days a week. This produce is given out to the local community with the food boxes. All other ministries outlets will be beginning up again within the month, CUPS, Teen Club, Wild Wednesday, after school help, and Grange. All of them will be conducted as per pandemic rules and procedures. The day to day operation of the ministry continues with the staff working daily to keeping everything at the ministry going. If you have questions about anything with the ministry please direct them to Jesus Murillo (Assistant Director), Sunshine Sakuda (Youth Activities), or Kylene Murphy (CUPS – Dance/Music).
Finally, thank you for your continued prayer and financial support of Westside Ministries.
May the Lord continue to bless you,
FROM THE DIRECTOR...
Westside Ministries began humbly 35 years ago in a former parsonage on W.Main St. in Turlock California. Forty children came to have Bible lessons and eat snacks and play games. We have grown exponentially. 600 children come monthly…to play, learn. They discover dance, agriculture and education. And yet with many changes one thing has stayed the same.
The Bible is taught to children with the hope that the seeds that are planted will grow in their lives. These seeds are the change needed in our underserved community. One by one kids experience a ‘new’ way to see themselves and the world. They have become educators, small business owners, restauranteurs, even a top US Aid official. Because someone saw the need to be the ‘change’ the community needed. Using the power of Jesus Christ.
Be a part!
We are ready for you to engage in the life of a child in need! Plant a seed!
